Fake solar panels or dummies: what and why?

dummy = fake solar panelA fake solar panel, in specialist terms also called a dummy, can be used if for example you are going to lay an uneven number of panels on the roof.

For aesthetic reasons in that case an additional dummy panel is often chosen to give an even number of panels in the installation. Dummies are therefore – as regards appearance – identical copies of the other solar panels in the installation. The difference lies in the absence of cells on the dummy panel, all the rest (width, thickness, colour, etc.) of the specifications remain the same. In this way an attractive installation can be created cheaply – dummies cost only a fraction of the price of real panels.

GH Solar makes dummy alternatives for all the panels in the product range for a spot price.
