EL Test

The electrical circuits of all GH Solar modules are evaluated with an EL test machine.

Physics

Electroluminescence is the result of radiative recombination of electrons and holes in a material. The excited electrons release their energy as photons – light. This light can be captured as an electroluminescence image, resulting in a picture which allows evaluation.

Practical application

An EL test machine consists of a black room in which the solar module is placed, a DC power supply, two cooled CCD camera’s. With the power supply, current will be sent through the solar module. All electrical active zones will start to emit infrared light. This infrared light will be acquired by the camera’s. This allows us to visualize all electrical active and non active areas of the solar module.

Evaluation

The electroluminescence image allows us to visualize the quality of the wafers made to print the cells, the cell print consistency, cells cracks due to inappropriate manipulations, inconsistent soldering of individual cells as well as the electrical guidance between busbars.

Opening the electrical black box

Hence most solar module manufacturers still did not invest in this electrical control equipment, GH Solar is proud to use it for % of her production.

A picture says more than 1.000 words

Many modules aren’t performing the way they are expected. Hereunder we can only state the difference between one of the mentioned “many modules” and the GH Solar module.
